Day of the Canary Islands or Día de las Canarias
Day of the Canary Islands or Día de las Canarias is a public holiday in Fuerteventura on May 30th each year. Should this day fall on a Saturday or Sunday, the following Monday will officially be a holiday.
This event celebrates the islands' culture and commemorates the autonomous Canary Islands Parliament's first session on May 30, 1983.
Public transport operates a Sunday timetable, banks and government offices are usually closed along with certain shops including supermarkets, especially those located outside of the main tourist resorts.
