Blue Emperor,Fuerteventura Nature

This butterfly is technically referred to as Morpho Peleides, and for this reason it is also known as the Blue Morph. This species originates from South America, and the wings are a brilliant blue. It is this which deters predators, it is thought that as the Blue Emperor rapidly flaps its wings, the bright flashes of colour startle most predators and this causes them to withdraw. In fact, these butterflies tend to live and travel together in groups in order to deter predators.
